(sa) brahmacārin. 'studying sacred learning; practising continence or chastity.' M.W. A (sa) brahmacārī is a 'young Brahman in the first (sa) āśrama or period of his life' (M. W.); there are four such periods. A Buddhist ascetic with his will set on 梵 purity, also intp. as nirvana.
